Emme voi olla aivan varmoja siitä, onko juuri Wes Craven ohjannut The Fireworks Womanin. Sen sijaan tiedämme, että hän esittää yhden pääosista; että elokuva leikkii fantasiakuvastolla (Craven esittää henkilöhahmoa, joka on puoliksi Mephistopheles ja puoliksi etelävaltiolainen puoskari); ja että tarina nuoresta naisesta, joka tuntee epäpyhää himoa lähimmäistään kohtaan, asettuisi kauniisti linjaan Cravenin kierojen perhetarinoiden kanssa. Let’s be clear about one thing: We are not 100% sure that Wes Craven is the director of The Fireworks Woman. But he definitely does play one of the main roles (albeit non-performing, as porn-lingo has it). The film does toy around with fantasy tropes (Craven plays a character half-Mephistopheles, half-Southern huckster). And the story of a young woman with the unholy hots for some next of kin (looking for a sanctuary from his desires at the bosom of the sacred mother ) certainly does sound like something the grandmaster of pervert-family-tales could come up with. We’ll show the film in a somewhat unusual fashion: in its Italian version! Why? Because that’s the longest version known to exist – it has several scenes more than the US-release (and we’re not talking about missing dialogue here…), plus this is color-wise the best-looking print around. Don’t say we’re not doing our best to enhance your viewing pleasure!
