MATKUSTAN YMPÄRI MAAILMAA
Festivaalin ensimmäinen päivä saa innoituksensa Mark Twainin matkakertomuksesta Jenkkejä maailmalla: heidän toivioretkensä pyhälle maalle (1869, suom. I. K. Inha 1922), jossa hän kuvaa vuonna 1867 Eurooppaan tekemäänsä turistimatkaa. Kirjassa mikään ei oikein käy odotusten mukaan ja vieraiden maiden ihmiset käyttäytyvät oudoilla tavoilla. Twainin satiirin hengessä toteamme: vieraat valtakunnat ovat aina paheiden pesiä – jos vain tietää miten toimia!
INNOCENTS ABROAD
Day One of Viva Erotica 2018 takes its inspiration from Mark Twain’s splendid travelogue The Innocents Abroad, or The New Pilgrims’ Progress (1869) in which he describes his “Great Pleasure Excursion” of 1867 when he ventured t’wards Europe and the Holy Land as part of an American tourist group. Invariably expectations are dashed, but strangers in strange lands behave without fail… strangely. Honoring Twain’s satirical spirit this day shall prove that the unknown can be a den of vice, provided one knows how to (mis)behave!
